People that watch my videos on YouTube often message me and ask me if Gibsons is actually worth visiting. I tell them it’s SO worth visiting but be prepared that after being here for a weekend, they’ll start imagining what their life on the Sunshine Coast could look like! Gibsons is THAT amazing. Compact, walkable, and ridiculously pretty, Gibsons has a way of making you fall in love with it!
The ferry ride feels like a reset
The ferry trip from West Vancouver to Langdale is part of the magic. As you leave Horseshoe Bay, you watch the skyline fade behind you, and forty minutes later you’re gliding into a completely different pace of life. By the time the ferry docks at Langdale, you’ve exhaled. It’s only a few minutes’ drive into town, but it feels like a world away.

What to do once you’re here
You’ll want to start in Lower Gibsons, which is the heart of the action. Wander Gower Point Road and Marine Drive, pop into a few galleries, then grab a coffee and a muffin at Molly’s Reach. Yes, it’s still here. Go inside, enjoy your snack, and enjoy the nostalgia. Afterwards, you can stroll the wharf, check out the boats, and if you’re lucky, see seals poking their heads up out of the water next to the breakwater.
If it’s summertime, go for a dip at Armours Beach. If it’s too cold for a swim, hike up nearby Soames Hill for a view of Gibsons and Keats Island that every Instagram selfie tries to capture.

Where to stay and what to eat
One of my favourite things about Gibsons is how casual everything feels. The Mad Hen and Gramma’s Pub are favourite spots for lunch in Lower Gibsons. In Upper Gibsons, the gotos are the Blackfish Pub and The 101 Brewhouse + Distillery. If you stay overnight, check out one of Gibsons’ many Airbnbs or book a room at the Garden Hotel.
Why visitors turn into locals
As a REALTOR®, I’ve met lots of people who came here “just to check it out.” They hiked, they ate, and they slowed down. Then they decided they didn’t want to leave.
Gibsons is a very alluring place. It’s close enough to the city to stay connected, but far enough away to feel like you’ve escaped it.
If you’re planning a visit, don’t rush it. Let the tides set your schedule. That’s how you fall in love with the Sunshine Coast.
