I like to call this home in Roberts Creek, BC “the castle by the sea.” It’s a true fairytale-home with oceanfront views and lots of unexpected architectural touches. A special thank you to the Aiken-Doyle Team for letting me tour their listing.
When you arrive at the property, one of the first things you’ll notice is the dramatic setting. The house sits tucked in the trees and has easy access to 80′ of shoreline. You’ll be able to swim, kayak, and fish just steps from your door! There’s a detached garage and a covered breezeway that leads to the front door.
The first time I walked into the main living space, my immediate impression was “WOW!” There are high ceilings, expansive windows framing water views, and marble floors underfoot. An open concept living space flows effortlessly from the foyer to the living room to the dining room and finally out onto the patio. This layout makes indoor-outdoor living a breeze and it tempts you to linger in each space.
One-of-a-kind kitchen
The kitchen is definitely one-of-a-kind and the castle motif is on full display. There are oversized handles on all the cabinets that I imagine would look right at home on a hobbit-hole door in Bag End. Everything is covered in rich wood tones, and overhead are light fixtures that make you feel like you stepped back in time. From here, you can look out to the ocean while prepping dinner. In this setting, cooking a meal becomes a “normal-life-but-elevated” moment.
Maybe my favourite space is the round bathroom. That’s right: it’s a circular space. There’s more marble and the curves soften the room, letting you feel enclosed yet airy at the same time. It’s playful, elegant, and memorable and elevates this listing from beautiful to unforgettable.
There’s also a set of ornate carved doors from China that separate the main living space from the pool room. And I’m not talking about a room with a pool table – This is an inside space with a swimming pool. The water has been drained and the pool is now home to a garden but I can’t see why you couldn’t return it to its original use. This wing of the home has tile floors, a half-bathroom, and French doors that open to your backyard patio.
Church bell & pool room
Throughout the home, I kept discovering more signature touches but maybe the most fascinating feature is the church bell that was imported from a church in Saint Lucia. Yes, it’s a real bell and, yes, you can ring it.
Upstairs, you’ll discover a primary bedroom suite with big windows that show off the ocean views. There’s also a jetted soaker tub with its own view as well as a private oceanview balcony. There’s lots of room for your clothes thanks to two BIG matching closets. The primary’s ensuite has a gigantic vanity with a marble top and a walk-in shower with a glass door.
Back on the main level are two more bedrooms. Design elements from the rest of the home carry over to the second bedroom. There’s an open beam ceiling, patio access, and a private 4-piece ensuite. Bedroom number 3 is currently used as a family room but would also make a great home office!
Backyard and the beach
The magic continues as we head outside! A large deck is ideal for entertaining and a set of steps leads out to the beach. Imagine spending your summer evenings here with family while kids (or grandkids) play in the ocean, trying to squeeze out every second of sunshine as the sun sets over Vancouver Island. Whether you’re hosting an event, or simply enjoying your solitude with a cup of tea, the setting here is unmatched.
