Whether you’re visiting the Sunshine Coast for a weekend getaway or you’re thinking about moving here, one of the most common questions I receive is how to get around once you arrive. Unlike Vancouver, transportation options are more limited, so it’s worth planning ahead. Here’s what you need to know about buses, taxis, ridesharing, and vehicle rentals on the Sunshine Coast, BC.
Public Transit on the Sunshine Coast, BC
There’s a bus stop at the BC Ferries Langdale terminal. When you walk off the boat, make your way and you’ll find the transit stop. The bus is on its own schedule so if the ferry is late, the bus might leave without you.
The ferry route leaves Langdale and makes stops in Gibsons, Roberts Creek, Davis Bay, and Sechelt.

Taxi service
As far as cabs go, there won’t be a line up of taxis waiting for you in Langdale like there would be at Horseshoe Bay. There’ll be a very limited number of taxis waiting so you’ll either share a ride with someone of maybe to wait for a cab to come back. Call West Coast Taxi in Sechelt to see what they recommend.

Ride sharing on the Sunshine Coast, BC
If transit or a taxi doesn’t work for you, another option is Coastal Rides, which is the Sunshine Coast version of Uber/Lyft. As of July 2026, Uber and Lyft do not operate on the Sunshine Coast.

Renting a vehicle
Rent a car on the Sunshine Coast
To rent a car, you’ll want to talk to Prime Rentals in Sechelt. I think they’re the only car rental place on the Sunshine Coast.

Bring a rental from Vancouver
Another option is to rent a car in Vancouver and drive onto the ferry. If you go this route, I’d recommend making a reservation on the ferry so that you don’t end up waiting in line for hours. Walking on to the ferry without a car doesn’t require a reservation and there’s typically no wait.

Short-term car sharing
If you only need a vehicle for a few hours, Coast Car Co-op may be a more economical option than a traditional rental.

Scooter rental
If you’re OK on two wheels instead of four, check out Scotty’s Scooters in Gibsons, BC. They’re located on the government dock across from the Gibsons Landing Harbour Authority.
Make a plan before visiting the Sunshine Coast, BC
If you’re staying in Gibsons or Sechelt and only exploring for a day or two, public transit or Coastal Rides may be enough. If you’re planning to visit multiple communities or explore beaches and hiking trails, having your own vehicle will make your trip much easier.

Moving to the Sunshine Coast, BC?
Call me if you’re planning your move to the Sunshine Coast but don’t know where to start. Moving here in 2014 was one of the best decisions I ever made. I absolutely love the Sunshine Coast and I think you will too!
